Happy 2011

After my three week self-inflicted hardcore diet and bootcamp, I’m feeling better.  I’m ready to embrace this new year and break out of my rut for good.  Usually I try to stick to simple resolutions, like “save money. eat less.”  But I think I’ll more successful with clearer, outlined, anal retentive goals, broken down into subtasks:

December to Remember!

It seems that I’ve lost track of myself in the last few months.  I weigh more than I have in a long, long time.  I don’t even remember what non-elastic-waistbands feel like!  And I feel sluggish, lazy, and even with 8 hours of sleep, I find it extremely difficult to get out of bed in the mornings. What happened to my uber productive past self?  The girl who did bikram at 6:00 am and then still went to the gym after work?  Who turned up her nose at fast food and pasta?  Who actually crossed things off her to-do list?

I know she’s in me somewhere.  So that’s why I vow to make this a December to Remember!  That is, to  remember that I was once active, healthy, and productive.  It’s time to rid myself of the bad habits I’ve formed over the last few months.  This way I can start the new year off right, rather than lazily and unsuccessfully starting my resolutions in January.

Go me!

Childhood Summers

I think I’ve finally decided on a theme for my wedding – summer, sunshine, and all those little things that made you happy when you were little.  That’s kind of how the Fiance makes me feel.  :)

Etsy Inspiration: Offbeat details

Although I don’t consider myself to be much of a traditionalist when it comes to weddings, there are a few things that I personally choose to keep in line with:  wearing a white (or off-white) dress, providing a meal and loads of alcohol for your guests, wedding bands, vows, etc.  The main stuff.  Everything else, however, is definitely game for creative interpretation / re-imagination!  Like these whimsical cake toppers and bouquets from Etsy:

Bouquets:
1. Handwired Paper Flowers
2. Custom Large Paper Bouquet
3. Dried Billy Button Bouquet
4. White Feather Bouquet

Toppers:
1. Classic Cute Couple Topper
2. Fall-themed Fancy Couple Topper
3. Hand sculpted blue birdies
4. Mr. and Mrs. Roboto (my favorite!)

Tying the Knot

This DIY bridal shower takes the knot theme to the extreme.  I especially love the little thread-ball flowers and chandelier!  Could this work for a breakup party too?  He was “stringing” you along?  Maybe not.  :)

Wedding Inspiration!

It’d always seemed that the Big Day (or BFD as I like to think of it sometimes) only allowed for the standard chandeliers, ballrooms, grand floral centerpieces, some fancy-shmancy details and hoity-toity ambiance.

Totally not my thing.  Or the boy’s thing.  We pride ourselves on being comfortably casual and practical (also known as cheap and lazy).  So we always knew we wanted to do something just a little offbeat.  And we wanted to personalize it.  And I myself had a desire to reach deep down into my cobwebby creative core … and emerge as a DIY diva extraordinaire.

Will that happen?  The cheap side of me says yes.  The lazy side…well.

Either way, first thing is first.  Inspiration!  Happy, sunny, squishy inspiration!

The now infamous Max and Margaux wedding. Their backyard banquet is a dream.

YELLOW!  Is TEWTALLY going to be a color for me.  It just screams summer and sunshine!  Which are good things.  Table design by Charm Event Design.  See more on the Hostess with the Mostess!

Paper!  Fancy streamers and garlands keep the feeling happy, but casual and hip!  Thank you Martha Stewart!

I like goals.

Without clear goals, I get aimless and start to loathe myself and my life.  I like always feeling that I’m working towards something – that way I can’t sit around and complain about the present or dwell on the past.  Not that I really have all that much to complain about, but I prefer to keep things moving and improving.  I plan to set and maintain my goals here, which will hopefully help me accomplish them sooner (and inspire me to set new and interesting ones).

Goals:

1) Learn how to cook 3 Korean Dishes proficiently (so that they’re edible).
2) Re-decorate and successfully cute-ify the condo.
3) Teach my cat how to use the toilet.
4) Run a half-marathon.
5) Plan, pay for, and enjoy a budget DIY wedding without losing my mind.

Old Married Fartville, Here I come!

It’s official.  I am engaged.  I didn’t see it happening this soon.  Since I’d been living with my very commitment-oriented lovey-dovey cheeseball boyfriend (I mean that in a good way)– I definitely knew it was coming, but tried not to think about it.  Part of me wasn’t prepared to do all this grown-up stuff yet.  But of course, I said yes, so here I am.  :)

The purpose of this blog has changed many times over the past few years, with each idea never really getting off the ground.  I had once hoped to dedicate it to my half-assed attempts (and hilarious failures) at becoming more domesticated  – so now that I’m rapidly approaching wifehood, I figured this would be a good time to revive that theme.  Enjoy!
